I am guilty of a few vices, one being Coca Cola. I am not proud that I drink it more than I should, but it has caused me to seek out alternatives. Nothing replaces the taste of Coca Cola, but perhaps I could replace the fizz. My goal is to lose some belly fat and feel sexy again. Here is how.

The key to finding a quality no calorie drink is in the ingredients list. In our label above, this drink has two ingredients: carbonated water (fizz!), natural flavor. We understand those ingredients without needing to perform a google search. There are no artificial sweeteners, no sodium, no calories, and zero grams of sugar. Let’s compare this to my favorite mistake, Coca Cola.

If we need to google the ingredients, there is a good chance they aren’t healthy.

The details per 20oz bottle:

  • Sweetener: High Fructose Corn Syrup
  • Sodium: 75mg
  • Calories: 240
  • Sugars: 65g
  • Caffeine: 57mg
  • Additives: Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Natural Flavors, Carbonated Water

The awareness I am attempting to raise (for now) is the difference in calories counts. To lead a healthier lifestyle, I need to be aware of the calories I consume and it can be hundreds if it’s soda, juice, or beer.

Weight loss is one of the top three concerns patients ask me to address (diabetes and hypertension being the others). Awareness is the first step to addressing their challenge.

If we focus on cutting some bad options and changing to better quality ones we can start to see how to lose weight the healthy way. We can do this without increasing physical activity, but that will speed up results.
